Work In Progress!

Here is are some work in progress shots of a pretty important piece I'm working on! I want it to be one of my best so far! The character is Princess Kun, part of a set of some new characters I created last year, inspired by Asian culture and series like The Twelve Kingdoms, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Wow it's been QUITE some time since my last post, I apologize for not keeping up over the summer! :(
This summer there wasn't as much sketching as there was making finished pieces. I didn't really scan much of my works in progress. But here is a new school year so I should be posting more again!

As you can see I started practicing using digital techniques! Some are just colored, but the purple one was drawn and colored in Paint Tool SAI. You can see more of this on my DeviantArt (tamao.deviantart.com), and my new account Frudoodles has some digital sketches.

Updates and Alice

Wow it's been a little while since my last post! I have tons of new sketches but I've been pretty wrapped up in homework lately!

Here's one from an Alice in Wonderland story I've been developing - The Wonderland Trials. Instead of the usual creepy interpretations that have been spawning, I decided to go with a more action-oriented story, where Alice has to fight her way through Wonderland. Something suitable for a video game plot!
So here we have Alice, with the Queen of Hearts at the top, and the Chesire Cat at the bottom.

Alriiiight a break from fanart, here's the real stuff. This is a little sketchdraft for a cover I'd like to do for one of my recently revived stories, 9 Ways to Die. The story is that a feline criminal, Felicity, has 9 lives and is raiding the city, and a young man with sharp deduction skills is on her trail. He's rejected by the police to work on her case, but soon finds a group of other rejects working much faster on following her.
The catch? This girl can only die if she's killed by something completely different than whatever happened in her last death. So far, bullets are the only proven death, the rest need to be figured out!

Sailor Venus

Sailor Venus is probably my favorite of the scouts/senshi to draw, she's just so silly and fun, and I love her long blonde hair!

Sidewalk Arts Festival 2010

So today was the annual Sidewalk Arts Festival hosted by SCAD and I decided to participate since I went to look last year and it seemed like great fun! It unfortunately rained but worked to our advantage, since we could smudge on the wet sidewalk and make our art look like paint (although some people bring water and do that regardless.)

Mine definitely isn't as stellar than the others but I think it came out nice for a first-timer in using chalk this way. It's difficult to do the fine details with such thick pieces! But I made do with what I had. Noooot happy with Harley's hand. Ugh haha.

Helloooo. My name is April but I'm commonly known on the world of the internet as Tamao, which is my DeviantArt username. Please check out my work there, the bulk of my art is posted there, and this place will contain sketches, ideas, and art-related rambles :)
I do A LOT of fanart and I just do a lot of sketches in general, some go to completion, others stay in this stage, so there's going to be a lot of in-progress stuff going up here. I'm essentially into visual storytelling so it's all comics, storyboards, character designs, environments, animation, etc etc...
